Harborside Wins Third CA Dispensary License

Harborside Health Center has officially been granted its third dispensary license in California, extending the reach of one of the most well-known businesses in the medical cannabis industry.

The San Leandro City Council voted unanimously at its Tuesday night meeting to grant the municipality’s lone dispensary license to Harborside San Leandro. The new dispensary is technically a partnership between Harborside Health Center and Dark Heart Nursery.

Harborside’s first dispensary is in Oakland, and its second is in San Jose.

Harborside San Leandro, which beat out 14 other applicants for the license, will have to pay the city an

4 Colorado Extracts Companies Pass Pesticide Test, One Fails

Several extracts manufacturers passed a pesticide test commissioned recently by The Denver Post, but one company’s products reportedly contained controversial – and possibly toxic – substances.

Mahatma Concentrates, a Denver-based extracts company, was found to be selling products that contain three pesticides the state has prohibited from use on commercial marijuana.

Mahatma purchased the tainted cannabis from a separate grower, Treatments Unlimited, which also runs the Altitude chain of rec stores, according to the Post. One of those shops was among several stores forced to quarantine thousands of plants in February and March by the city

Improving Odds: Momentum Building in Vermont to Legalize Recreational Marijuana Via the Legislature

By John Schroyer

Next year could be historic for the marijuana industry in more than one way.

While multiple states have a real shot at legalizing recreational cannabis via ballot measures in 2016 – including massive markets such as California – one appears poised to become the first to do so via the legislature: Vermont.

Two separate bills to legalize recreational cannabis in the state gained little traction this year. But they are both still alive, and there’s a good chance lawmakers will discuss one or both in the next legislative session, which begins in January.

The climate for

Alaska Recreational Cannabis Rules Taking Shape

Recreational marijuana shops in Alaska will likely be prohibited from giving away branded merchandise and coupons, and they could be required to install pricey security systems.

Those are just two points from new draft rules that the Alaska Marijuana Control Board is considering as the state prepares to launch its rec program next year, according to the Alaska Dispatch News.

The board, which met last week to go over the latest proposed regulations, hemmed and hawed over potential security requirements that could cost businesses six figures to meet.

While wanting to support strict security protocols, the board doesn’t

Cannabis Group Gains Entry to Oregon State Fair

The Oregon Cannabis Business Council scored a spot at the 2015 Oregon State Fair, indicating that more mainstream organizations are warming to the industry in states that have legalized marijuana.

Although the group wasn’t allowed to sell or hand out cannabis products or samples, it did promote the industry with educational literature and the like, according to the Oregonian.

The council has big ideas for featuring marijuana products at the state fair in the coming years. They’re aiming to get cannabis a new entrance into the fair’s horticulture competition, complete with ribbon awards. Council leaders are even dreaming

Minnesota MMJ Company Delays Opening More Dispensaries

Minnesota Medical Solutions, one of just two companies licensed in the state to produce and sell medical cannabis, announced this week that it’s delaying opening its final two dispensaries until the spring because of low patient numbers.

The company, also known as MinnMed, has so far opened two of its four locations allowed under state law, one in Rochester and one in Minneapolis.

But the state’s lower-than-expected patient count, which stood at just 395 as of last week, means that the cost of opening more dispensaries is prohibitive, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported.

“The patient numbers just don’t
