Canadian MMJ Producer Closes $3M Funding Round

Canadian firm OrganiGram Holdings announced that it has closed on a $3 million round of financing, which the company will use to bolster its medical cannabis production site in New Brunswick.

Duce Holdings and Denaco Group will provide $1 million in exchange for 200,000 common shares of OrganiGram’s stock, while Farm Credit Canada will provide a $2 million long-term loan. Farm Credit recently doled out the first $1 million and will provide the rest of the loan over time.

Illinois Won’t Expand List of Qualifying Conditions for MMJ

The Illinois Department of Public Health has announced that it won’t add new qualifying conditions to the state’s medical cannabis program at this time, a big blow to cannabis businesses that were hoping officials would help expand the market for MMJ.

The decision comes after a state panel recently recommended adding 11 new conditions – including post-traumatic stress disorder, migraines and irritable bowel syndrome – to the list of qualifying ailments for medical cannabis.

Illinois does allow MMJ use for 39 conditions, but most of them only affect a small sliver of the state’s population.

Detroit Crafting Proposed Regulations on Dispensaries

Detroit officials are finalizing a draft of proposed regulations on the city’s dispensaries, which continue to pop up like dandelions even though they are technically illegal under state law.

Proposed regulations in an early draft would require dispensaries to become licensed by the city and locate at least 2,000 feet away from a school, daycare, city recreation center, library or museum. They would also have
