Mexican Supreme Court Sides With Marijuana

Cannabis reform efforts just took a big step forward in Mexico, which  eventually could lead to a new market for marijuana entrepreneurs.

The Mexican Supreme Court stated in a ruling this week that individuals should have the right to cultivate and distribute cannabis for personal use, according to The New York Times.

The ruling doesn’t immediately overturn anti-marijuana laws in the country. And this case in particular will only apply to four plaintiffs, who are members of a group called Mexico United Against Crime that wants the government to focus on violent offenders instead of marijuana growers, sellers and consumers

Cannabis Social Network Clears First Hurdle to Nasdaq Listing

By Omar Sacirbey

A fast-growing social network for marijuana users is entering a key phase in its quest to get listed on the Nasdaq, which would mark a groundbreaking development for the cannabis industry at large.

Denver-based MassRoots applied for a Nasdaq listing in August and cleared its first hurdle Wednesday when its S-1 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission became effective.

The company can now move forward with trying to hit nine benchmarks required to get listed on the Nasdaq. MassRoots already meets six of those requirements, according to company founder and CEO Isaac Dietrich.

Immense Colorado Edibles Recall Tied to Pesticides

Two Colorado companies have issued new recalls involving almost 30,000 edibles after discovering that cannabis trim they purchased earlier in the year was tied to the use of banned pesticides.

The recall is the largest in state history involving cannabis edibles, according to the Denver Post.

Gaia’s Garden issued a recall for roughly 8,000 edibles on Tuesday, and Green Cross, the owner of EdiPure, recalled over 20,000 products on Oct. 30.

Both had previously purchased contaminated marijuana from TruCannabis, a Denver-area company that has a cultivation operation and five retail shops.

TruCannabis issued its own recall just weeks ago

Seneca Nation to Explore Entering MMJ Industry

Seneca Nation voters in western New York gave their leaders approval to explore entering the medical marijuana industry.

In a referendum that coincided with the tribe’s judicial elections, the measure passed this week 448-364, according to The Buffalo News.

The vote permits the Seneca Nation Council to draft laws and regulations to allow for the manufacture, use and distribution of medical cannabis. The measure requires further approval from the tribe’s members if the council wants to enter agreements on medical marijuana with other governments.

“I think this is an opportunity for the Senecas to pursue staying on the

Sanders Introduces Bill to Lift Federal Marijuana Ban

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders introduced a bill Wednesday that would take marijuana off the federal government’s list of Schedule 1 drugs and effectively end federal prohibition against the plant, which would be a game-changer for the cannabis industry.

This is the first time such a bill has been introduced in the Senate.

The measure would not legalize cannabis – instead, it would allow individual states to decide how they want to handle marijuana. The bill would also ban the interstate transport of marijuana.

Going further than any other presidential candidate this year, Sanders said last week he would support

Montana Supreme Court to Take Up MMJ Restrictions Again

The Montana State Supreme Court will hear arguments Wednesday regarding an attempted crackdown on the state’s medical cannabis industry that’s been stalled since 2011 by a lower court judge.

If the justices side with the state, it could signal the end of Montana’s MMJ industry, as the rules would effectively ban medical cannabis sales and advertising, according to the Great Falls Tribune.

State attorneys have been pursuing the issue relentlessly.

The legislature issued restrictive new rules on medical cannabis four years ago, but District Court Judge James Reynolds blocked implementation of the regulations.

Failed Ohio Cannabis Campaign Promises to Keep Fighting

By John Schroyer

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Leaders of a failed bid to legalize both medical and recreational cannabis in Ohio vowed Tuesday night to continue their efforts to establish a regulated marijuana market in the state, regardless of the fact that voters rejected the initiative by a whopping 64% to 36%.

“The work continues. It’s not over,” Ian James – executive director of ResponsibleOhio, the campaign behind the legalization measure – said to a cheering room of supporters when it was clear that the proposal would not come anywhere close to passing. “This is a bump in the road.”
