Trio of Michigan MMJ Dispensaries Raided

Three medical cannabis dispensaries just northeast of Grand Rapids, Michigan, were raided and at least one was shuttered by local law enforcement this week.

Police maintain that all three were selling cannabis illegally, and the raids occurred only after they conducted sting operations at each business. No arrests were made during the raids, but criminal charges could be filed, the undersheriff said.

An undersheriff told a local police station that the undercover stings began after their department received multiple tips from residents who said the dispensaries were selling cannabis under the table, and the undercover work bore that out.

Oregon Tribe Eyeing MJ Industry

Next month could see the creation of a 36,000-square-foot marijuana cultivation and extraction facility at an Oregon Native American reservation if a planned vote is approved by enough members of the tribe.

The Warm Springs Indian Reservation, roughly two hours from Portland, is set to vote on Dec. 17 on whether or not to move ahead with the project, according to the Bulletin. If it passes, then the facility – along with a trio of proposed rec shops in Portland and Bend – are expected to bring in more than $11 million in revenues in its first year

Anchorage Proposes First Rec Laws

More than a year after Alaskan voters approved recreational marijuana, lawmakers in the state’s largest city have finally released their first proposed cannabis regulations governing land use and zoning.

The proposed regulations, released by the Anchorage Municipal Assembly, would require marijuana businesses to have special land-use permits. They would also prohibit any type of marijuana business – including backyard greenhouse – from operating in residential areas.

Under the proposal, which was drafted by city planning officials, retail shops could only open on commercial properties, and commercial grows and manufacturing operations would only be allowed in industrial areas.

Oregon Health Official: MMJ Plant Controls Too Lax

An Oregon health official has warned lawmakers that existing regulations on the state’s medical cannabis industry don’t do enough to prevent marijuana from entering the illegal market, though she didn’t offer solutions on how to stem the flow.

Priscilla Lewis, deputy director of the Oregon Public Health Division, said she sees the wisdom of having a seed-to-sale tracking system but didn’t ask lawmakers to institute one, according to the East Oregonian. Such a system involves labeling individual plants with a tiny, trackable chip.

The Oregon Liquor Control Commission tracks recreational marijuana with a seed-to-sale system produced by Franwell,

Here’s a closer look at several notable developments in the marijuana industry over the past week.

Oh, Canada

WA County Sees Dip in Rec Sales After Oregon Launch

Not surprisingly, recreational marijuana shops in southern Washington State took a big hit in October once Oregon residents could legally begin buying limited amounts of rec cannabis in their home state.

Sales in Clark County, Washington, which is right across from Portland, dropped from $1.8 million in September to $1.1 million in October, the Columbian reported.

But shop owners in southern Washington remain upbeat about their long-term prospects.

Those stores saw an unexpected spike in sales after rec possession and consumption became legal in Oregon in July. Many Oregonians crossed into southern Washington to purchase from rec shops, as they

Vermont Report Suggests 30 Stores, ‘Lounges’ if Rec Legalized

A Vermont entrepreneur group has released a report offering recommendations on how to structure a recreational marijuana industry in the hopes of influencing lawmakers behind an expected legalization push in the state Capitol next year.

The Vermont Cannabis Coalition report recommends that the state award up to 30 licenses for retail marijuana stores. It also calls on lawmakers to approve “lounges” where cannabis can be sold and consumed.

On the cultivation side, the report recommends awarding up to four licenses to “industrial” growers and up to three cooperative licenses. Each of these license-holders would also be able to run retail shops as

Ohio MJ Campaign Admits Mistakes, Will Push ‘Free Market’ Measure

The architect of the biggest failure in modern marijuana politics has vowed to change his ways and come back with a proposal that will win over voters and the cannabis industry at large.

Ian James – executive director of ResponsibleOhio, the group behind a failed bid to legalize marijuana in Ohio earlier this month – acknowledged that the campaign’s ballot initiative was deeply flawed.

But he promised to get a revamped legalization measure back on the ballot in 2016 that will create more of a “free market” system that will open the door for many entrepreneurs to own

Florida’s Emerging CBD Industry May Be Poised for Sizable Shift

By Omar Sacirbey

Big changes could be on the horizon for Florida’s emerging – and oft-delayed – CBD industry.

Two new medical marijuana bills that made rumblings this week in the state’s legislature may supplant the much-criticized CBD law passed by legislators in 2014. If successful, the bills promise to create a much larger potential patient pool, boost the number of available MMJ business licenses and potentially open the door for more minorities to get involved in the industry.

At the same time, advocates have launched a renewed bid to legalize medical marijuana via the ballot box next

CO Officials Warn Against Marijuana Investment Scams

Despite $700 million in marijuana sales last year alone, Colorado officials are warning investors to think twice before putting their money into cannabis stocks.

The reason: There’s a relatively high risk of getting sucked into a scam.

The Colorado Division of Securities has put out an alert that cautions investors against betting capital on a trio of investments it considers risky: marijuana-related companies, binary options and digital currency.

“What they all have in common is their recent emergence as three investments that both sellers and buyers hope will become the ‘next big thing,’” Colorado Securities Commissioner Gerald Rome said in
