DC May Legalize Cannabis Clubs

Marijuana consumption lounges may become legal in the nation’s capital.

Under a new measure approved Tuesday by the Washington DC City Council, a task force will take a look at whether or not the municipality should allow consumption – but not the sale – of cannabis at private clubs, according to the Washington Post.

Instead of passing an alternative ordinance that would have permanently banned such clubs, the council agreed to a moratorium of 225 days, which would give the task force time to develop recommendations for the city.

During debate, the Post reported, the possibility was raised

Facebook Shuts Down NJ Dispensary Pages

Where’s Sean Parker, the former president of Facebook the billionaire behind a marijuana legalization effort in California, when you need him?

Facebook shut down the pages of at least three medical marijuana dispensaries in New Jersey on Tuesday, and possibly a few more in other states, according to NJ.com. The affected New Jersey dispensaries are Breakwater Wellness and Treatment Center in Cranbury, Compassionate Sciences Alternative Treatment Center in Bellmawr, and Garden State Dispensary in Woodbridge.

The two other New Jersey dispensaries, Greenleaf Compassion Center in Montclair and Compassionate Care Foundation in Egg Harbor Township, also have Facebook pages but

RI Dispensaries Get Unexpected Help From the Governor

Rhode Island’s three medical cannabis dispensaries are about to get some extra help from an unexpected source – Gov. Gina Raimondo.

Under a newly proposed budget plan Raimondo is backing, dispensaries would receive less competition from caregivers than they have in the past. The plan suggests new fees and plant count limits for caregivers, as well as a new fee for MMJ patients who grow their own, according to the Providence Journal.

The fees would be for new state tracking tags, which would cost $150 per plant for patients and $350 per plant for caregivers. Each plant is

OSHA Intervention in the Cannabis Industry: Q&A With Jolene Donahue

By John Schroyer

While the marijuana industry is rife with uncertainty, there’s one thing you can count on: Federal and state regulators will take a bigger interest in cannabis businesses as the trade grows and becomes more mainstream.

One such agency that will likely be paying more attention to marijuana businesses is the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA. The agency works to ensure companies are creating safe working conditions for their employees. It operates at both a federal and state level, depending on how states choose to enforce worker safety laws.

Although OSHA violations and fines aren’t exactly commonplace

Florida Nurseries Sue to Stop CBD Production

Three companies have filed suit to prevent Florida’s CBD program from moving forward until ongoing legal issues over the licensing process are resolved.

The lawsuit was filed by San Felasco Nurseries, 3 Boys Farm Company and McCrory’s Sunny Hill Nursery, according to the Orlando Sentinel. None of the three were among the five license winners announced last November – but one of them is part of a separate lawsuit challenging the state on its decision-making process for awarding permits.

The new lawsuit, filed on Tuesday in Leon Circuit Court, asks that the state be required to hit pause

Wyoming MMJ Group Fails to Make 2016 Ballot

There won’t be any marijuana business opportunities in Wyoming any time soon, now that a campaign there has failed to gather enough signatures to get a medical marijuana initiative on the 2016 ballot.

The state’s NORML wing told the Wyoming Tribune Eagle that it had only been able to gather a little over 7,000 signatures since August, far short of the 25,600 it needed by Feb. 8 to qualify for the ballot.

But the group isn’t giving up; instead, they’re simply pushing back their timeline and shooting for the 2018 ballot now. State law gives campaigns 18 months

The Next Rec State: Highlights of Alaska’s New Marijuana Rules

By John Schroyer

The fourth recreational cannabis market in the United States is almost here.

The Alaskan Marijuana Control Board formally signed off on rules for the industry last week, including detailed procedures for businesses that want to obtain permits.

The next step is to open the application window, which begins Feb. 24, and then start handing out permits in May.

Although the board might still tweak the rules here and there, the vast majority of regulations are done, and there almost certainly won’t be any significant changes for applicants to worry about, said Anchorage attorney

Colorado Hemp Farm Granted ‘Organic’ Label by USDA

A hemp farm in Colorado has broken the organic glass ceiling.

That is, it’s the nation’s first hemp producer to get the formal blessing of the U.S. Department of Agriculture to label its crop “organic,” a prized marketing tool that is often used lightly in the cannabis industry.

CBDRx, a hemp grower in northern Colorado, requested the certification from the USDA and obtained it after a third-party audit, according to KUNC. The company can now use the formal USDA organic seal in its marketing, a major first in the cannabis industry.
