Woody Harrelson Among Hawaii Dispensary Applicants

Hollywood star Woody Harrelson filed one of the 66 applications in Hawaii for just eight medical cannabis dispensary permits that will be awarded later this year.

Harrelson’s company, Simple Organic Living, submitted a dispensary license application to the state, according to the Associated Press. If the company wins one of the permits, he’ll be just the latest celebrity to get into the marijuana trade, along with plenty of other entertainers such as Snoop Dogg and Willie Nelson.

Hawaii’s application period ran from Jan. 12-29, and the eight license winners will be announced April 15. Dispensaries are

Lack of Outreach Undermining Minnesota’s MMJ Program

One of Minnesota’s two medical marijuana license holders estimated recently that under the state’s current list of approved conditions, there could be some 300,000 eligible patients in the state who simply don’t know about the program because of a lack of information and outreach.

“There’s a huge chunk of patients who just don’t know this program exists,” Manny Munson-Regala, CEO of Leafline Labs, told the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Beginning in August, the state’s approved conditions list will include intractable pain, which will almost certainly increase the number of eligible patients far beyond the 300,000 that Munson-Regala said could

Chart of the Week: Sizable Appetite for Marijuana Infused Products & Concentrates in Illinois

By Becky Olson

Medical marijuana patients in Illinois are already warming up to alternative forms of cannabis.

Infused products and concentrates accounted for 11% – or roughly $132,000 – of the $1.2 million in sales Illinois dispensaries racked up in January, according to the Associated Press.

That’s a solid start for a new market, and it’s likely only the tip of the iceberg.

The first dispensaries in Illinois opened on Nov. 9, and nearly two dozen are now up and running. But only a handful of the 17 operational cultivation sites in Illinois are currently making infused products and concentrates for sale at the dispensaries.

Oregon Considers Repealing Residency Requirements

Oregon legislators are considering nixing a requirement that at least 51% of recreational marijuana businesses be owned by state residents, according to Go Local PDX.

Marijuana business observers told the outlet that the residency requirement actually ends up hurting local cannabis businesses.

Leah Maurer, co-chair of Portland’s Women Grow chapter, told the outlet she hopes the requirement is overturned.

“It limits the number of people that can get involved in this newly emerging industry and could really stifle some of the growth that we are hoping to see,” Maurer said.

While many industry advocates supported repealing the requirement, Maurer

Social media giant Facebook continues to shut down the pages of state-legal cannabis retailers across the country, Marijuana Business Daily has learned.

More than 20 dispensaries and recreational shops in Arizona, Colorado, Maine, Nevada, New Jersey and Washington State have had their pages shut down over the past week or so.

Those are just the ones Marijuana Business Daily has been able to confirm, so the actual number could be much higher.

Several of the closures were first reported earlier this week by NJ.com, but more retailers have been kicked off Facebook since

Detroit Dispensaries Get 30-day Window to Apply for Licenses

More than 200 medical cannabis dispensaries in Detroit will have from March 1-31 to apply for a license to legally operate in the city.

Dispensaries that don’t meet the deadline or requirements will be closed, said Melvin Butch Hollowell, the city’s highest ranking lawyer. Hollowell announced the plan Tuesday, and said notices went out to the 211 dispensaries that will be required to apply or close, according to The Detroit News.

The rules are part of ordinances approved last year by Detroit’s City Council, and intended to curb an increase in unregulated dispensaries in the city.

Cannabis Industry Newbies, Veterans Kicking the MMJ Tires in Delaware

By Omar Sacirbey

The race for Delaware’s two remaining medical marijuana licenses is heating up, but it’s hard to say exactly how hot it will get.

Nearly 50 executives, professionals and entrepreneurs representing 29 entities attended a “pre-bid” meeting in Wilmington, the state’s largest city, this week.

Delaware officials held the meeting to cover some ground rules of the licensing and application process, as well as answer questions from those in attendance.

The meeting – which was mandatory for those who want to apply for a license to grow and sell MMJ in Delaware – attracted both industry newcomers and veterans. The
