Anchorage Finalizes Recreational Cannabis Regs

The Anchorage City Assembly finalized its regulations for the upcoming recreational marijuana industry on Tuesday night, tweaking buffer zone rules, prohibiting small-scale commercial grows and taking other steps.

The new rules reduce the required distance between marijuana retailers and schools from 1,000 feet to 500 feet. But the news is not as good as it seems because the distance won’t be measured by the shortest pedestrian route between entrances, but the shortest distance from property line to property line, according to the Alaska Journal of Commerce. That change means that some stores will be in violation of the new

Just a few months after a marijuana legalization ballot measure failed miserably in Ohio, now it seems as though there’s competition for who’s going to lead the next charge.

New York Tribe to Grow, Dispense MMJ

It looks like New York’s five medical cannabis companies will have some more competition by the end of the year. At least, they will on Long Island.

The Shinnecock Indian Nation, which has a reservation on the eastern part of Long Island, has decided to get into the MMJ business, according to the Southampton Press. The tribe plans on growing and selling MMJ by the end of the year.

But the Shinnecocks won’t necessarily have a competitive advantage, since the ordinance the tribal council approved includes a requirement that the operation be governed by state law. That means
