Colorado MMJ Company Sues Competitor, Alleges Foul Play

The founder of Mary’s Medicinals, a Colorado medical marijuana company that produces infused products, has sued competitor RX Green, claiming its owner used underhanded tricks to put her out of business.

Nicole Smith, founder and president of Mary’s Medicinals, alleges in a lawsuit in Denver District Court that RX Green owner Joshua Meacham began last August trying to get a number of customers to stop purchasing from her company, the Denver Post reported.

The suit alleges that Meacham even used email aliases in an attempt to undermine Mary’s Medicinals, the Denver Post reported.

Smith alleges in the suit that Meacham

Oregon Authorizes Early Edibles & Extracts Rec Sales

Oregon Gov. Kate Brown has signed into law a bill permitting medical marijuana dispensaries in the state to sell cannabis-infused products and extracts to recreational consumers before the state’s rec system is completely online.

Early rec sales began last October in Oregon, with dispensaries being allowed to sell limited amounts of cannabis flower to adults over 21, but edibles and extracts were left out of the equation until now.

The bill, Senate Bill 1511, also permits recreational stores to sell cannabis tax free to medical marijuana card holders, the Oregonian reported.

Before any of these changes take

Australian MMJ Could Be a $100M Industry

If Australian states all legalize medical cannabis, the combined industry could be valued at upwards of $100 million, according to a research paper by the University of Sydney Business School.

Though that may not seem like much – given that Colorado alone sold almost $1 billion last year – it could be a solid start, especially since Australia is home to 23 million people.

The research paper, which was reported by Business Insider Australia, was based on data from worldwide legal marijuana markets, including Israel, Canada and the Netherlands, and gauged potential demand in

GW Pharmaceuticals Could Make Major Splash in U.S. Cannabis Industry

By Omar Sacirbey

A British company that develops cannabis-based medicine is on the verge of a major breakthrough that could ripple across the U.S. marijuana industry.

GW Pharmaceuticals will likely seek FDA approval in the fourth quarter of this year to sell an epilepsy drug derived from marijuana, according to an analyst who follows the company.

If it wins that approval, GW Pharmaceuticals could start sales in the U.S. by the end of 2017, giving it access to a potentially billion-dollar market.

The move would not only boost the company’s market and business prospects, it would also help bring credibility

U.S. Companies Have Put $50M into Israeli Marijuana R&D

The U.S. definitely does not have a lock on the marijuana industry. Over the past two years, private companies from the United States have put roughly $50 million into the Israeli medical marijuana trade alone.

Those tens of millions, according to Reuters, have gone towards “licensing Israeli medical marijuana patents, cannabis agro-tech startups and firms developing delivery devices such as inhalers.”

And observers expect that $50 million figure to keep getting bigger.

One of the reasons Israel’s information is so valuable is simply because the U.S. federal government is still standing in the way of scientific research into

New York: About 1,000 Patients Have Received MMJ

Although an estimated 2,039 medical cannabis patients in New York have been ruled eligible to purchase marijuana under the state’s law, only about half of those have actually made a purchase, a department of health spokesman told Politico.

New York is one of several states, including Illinois and Minnesota, with relatively new medical marijuana programs that are suffering from low patient registries. The problem is that if something isn’t done to increase the patient pool, businesses won’t be able to afford to keep producing and selling MMJ.

That’s why there are multiple efforts underway to expand

Vermont Governor Criticizes Massachusetts Rec Initiative

A battle is brewing between two New England states over which has the better cannabis legalization proposal.

Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin said a recreational legalization bill recently approved by his state’s Senate and now being considered by its House of Representatives is superior to a recreational legalization ballot measure in Massachusetts that backers expect to have before voters in November.

The difference? Massachusetts’ ballot measure permits edibles, smoking lounges, and home delivery. As Shumlin noted in a blog post on his website recently, “Vermont’s bill allows none of that.”

Shumlin argued that edibles have caused problems in Colorado, and

North Vegas Drawing in Medical Cannabis Growers, Producers

The “financially ailing” cousin of Las Vegas – North Las Vegas – is perhaps poised to be revitalized by the cannabis trade.

The city, which is much more run-down and off the beaten track from the downtown strip where most tourists play these days, has drawn at least 18 medical marijuana cultivators and producers, all lured by inexpensive industrial space and lower licensing fees than neighboring municipalities, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Those 18 licensees are even less than what was originally anticipated, since at least 35 were approved to set up shop in a specific industrial
