SF Dispensary Reemerges After 2011 Forced Shutdown

From bricks and mortar to wheels and then back to bricks and mortar again.

That’s the story of Medithrive, which started in 2009 as a dispensary in San Francisco’s Mission District but was shut down in 2011 by federal authorities and remade itself as a delivery service. Now, Medithrive is going back to its roots and will reopen as a dispensary later this month, according to Missionlocal.com.

Before being shuttered five years ago, Medithrive had 26,000 patients and employed 17 people, according to SF Gate. It will occupy the same storefront as before, but is remodeling

MI Dispensary Owners Wrongly Raided Consider Suing

A husband and wife team that owns a locally licensed dispensary in Michigan is considering suing the county whose officers raided their home 19 months ago, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Annette and Dale Shattuck assert that even though the St. Claire County Drug Task Force returned most of the property it seized from the family in July 2014 after a raid, it’s not enough to compensate for the wrongs committed against them. Not all their belongings were returned, some of what was returned was damaged, and most importantly, the raid traumatized their young children.

DC Juice Delivery Business Exploits Legal MJ Loophole

This is a new one.

A lot of marijuana businesses have gotten creative over the years in order to get around legal hurdles that hamstring cannabis entrepreneurs, but a new delivery service in Washington DC is pushing the boundaries even further.

HighSpeed delivers juice with a “side” of cannabis despite a ban in DC on recreational marijuana sales, according to Washington City Paper.

The company, which has about 300 customers, claims that it’s only selling juice, and thereby following the law.

But customers can choose from three codeword options, all of which include a sample of cannabis, according to media report.

Harborside Canceling National Expansion Plans, Will Focus on California

By John Schroyer

What a difference seven months make.

Since discussing plans last August to expand into nearly every market in the western United States, Steve and Andrew DeAngelo of Harborside Health Center have pulled a 180-degree-turn and decided to focus solely on solidifying and growing their foothold in California.

Along these lines, the brothers told Marijuana Business Daily that they have sold the Harborside-branded dispensary they opened last October in Portland, Oregon, which wasn’t performing as well as they had hoped.

“For us, we’d never been able to get that shop up to break even,” said Steve DeAngelo, the

Oregon Governor Signs Marijuana Banking Bill

Oregon Gov. Kate Brown signed a bill Monday afternoon that protects financial institutions that maintain accounts for marijuana business from state criminal prosecution.

The new law, however, does not protect financial institutions from federal prosecution, so it isn’t likely to persuade banks and credit unions in Oregon to start servicing marijuana businesses.

While marijuana is legal in Oregon, it remains illegal under federal law, so most financial institutions refuse to take marijuana businesses as clients, even though the U.S. Treasury Department has issued guidelines under which banks could open marijuana-related accounts.

Despite having no effect on federal laws,

Cannabis Company Seeks NFL Stadium Naming Rights

One of Colorado’s largest cannabis retailers announced Friday – on April Fool’s Day – that it is seeking the naming rights to Sports Authority Field at Mile High, home of the Denver Broncos.

But it’s not a prank. Native Roots, which has nine cannabis storefronts throughout Colorado, hopes to replace Sports Authority, which currently has the naming rights to the stadium but recently filed for bankruptcy and may not be able to make the investments necessary to keep the rights.

Sports Authority has the rights, which cost between $6 million and $7 million annually, until at least
