The event, hosted by Marijuana Business Daily, led the pack last year in growth in attendees, net square feet of paid exhibit space, and number of exhibitors, Trade Show Executive announced at “The Fastest 50” awards ceremony Thursday night in Las Vegas.

Trade Show Executive ranks the nation’s 50 fastest-growing trade shows by annual percentage growth in each of those three areas.

Oregon Edibles Makers Kick Off Awareness Campaign: “Try 5”

A coalition of edibles manufacturers in Oregon, concerned with a lack of general public knowledge on the potency of their products, have launched a public safety campaign to urge first-time users to take it easy on the dosage when trying such products.

The campaign’s slogan? “Try 5,” the Oregonian reported.

In other words, edibles makers are suggesting newbies begin with a five milligram dose, similar to what was suggested by a campaign in Colorado in 2014 that used the motto, “Start low and go slow.”

The Oregon campaign, run by the Oregon Responsible Edibles Council, launched just

Ohio Lawmakers Send Medical Cannabis Bill to Governor

The Ohio Senate passed a medical marijuana bill and sent it to Gov. John Kascich, who will review the legislation.

The Senate’s approval of House Bill 523 comes two weeks after House lawmakers did the same in a bid to head off a possible ballot measure this fall that would create a more permissive MMJ program. Both chambers are Republican-led.

The Ohio legislation, if signed into law, would be more limited than those in some states.

It would prohibit personal growing and smokeable flower. Instead, patients would be allowed to consume oils, tinctures, and patches which would be

Oakland’s Ambitious Diversity Plan for the MMJ Industry

By Omar Sacirbey

Oakland is targeting the War on Drugs.

The California port city’s lawmakers this month approved rules designed to allocate more medical marijuana business licenses to minorities, especially those in neighborhoods disproportionately affected by the U.S. drug war.

Because blacks and Latinos have been swept up disproportionately by the War on Drugs, many have criminal records and are therefore barred from the marijuana industry.

Oakland’s new rules – the Equity Permit Program – run counter to national trends in marijuana policy. Many legalized marijuana programs bar people with drug or other convictions from participating.

California Teamsters Contribute to Group Opposing MJ Legalization

One of California’s biggest unions labor has contributed $25,000 to a group dedicated to defeating adult-use marijuana legalization this year in the state.

The California Teamsters chapter gave the money to the Coalition for Responsible Drug Policies, an anti-legalization group, ATT: reported. And a Teamsters lobbyist told the news site that his organization has “serious concerns” about the initiative California voters will likely decide on this November.

The Teamster’s primary gripe with the Adult Use of Marijuana Act – the legalization measure backed by tech billionaire Sean Parker – focuses on distribution and transportation, the lobbyist said.

Arizona Medical Cannabis Industry Poised for Growth, Competition

By John Schroyer

Arizona’s medical marijuana market, already one of the largest in the nation, will soon undergo a major transformation – one that could create fiercer competition for existing dispensaries but also extra sales.

The number of licensed dispensaries is poised to jump by around 30%, unleashing new players in populated areas.

At the same time, however, demand for medical marijuana in the state is expected to remain brisk, generating fresh business for the 93 operational dispensaries (another six are licensed but not open). The number of medical marijuana patients jumped nearly 10% from January through April.

Speaker Ryan: CBD Legalization May Pass U.S. House

The top elected Republican in the United States said the U.S. House of Representatives may vote to legalize CBD, potentially opening a bounty of new market opportunities for this form of marijuana oil.

House Speaker Paul Ryan, a Wisconsin Republican, told a local broadcaster Monday he’s fairly confident a CBD legalization measure can pass the House.

“This oil does not have THC in it, so therefore it really shouldn’t be lumped into the category of anything close to legalization of marijuana and that’s the confusion that typically surrounds the issue,” Ryan told News 3.
