Arizona County Judge Tosses Lawsuit Targeting Rec MJ Initiative

A Maricopa County Superior Court judge has thrown out a lawsuit aimed at keeping a recreational marijuana legalization initiative off the Arizona ballot this November.

The plaintiffs behind the suit promised to appeal their case to the Arizona Supreme Court, the Eastern Arizona Courier reported, signaling the legal battle over recreational legalization isn’t over.

Seth Leibsohn, chairman for Arizonans for Responsible Drug Policy, which is behind the suit, said the legalization initiative “perpetrates a fraud on the electorate.”

But J.P. Holyoak, chairman of the Campaign to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol Campaign – which is behind Proposition 205 –

Army’s Top Doc Won’t Back Medical Cannabis for PTSD

The U.S. Army Surgeon General, Lt. Gen. Nadja West, last week declined to support the use of medical cannabis for military veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.

West’s opposition deals a setback to efforts to extend the use of MMJ for treatment of PTSD, a common ailment among vets. PTSD alone afflicts between 11-20 out of every 100 vets who served in either the Iraq or Afghanistan conflicts. According to some estimates, that could equate to roughly half a million MMJ patients.

West told defense reporters she’s concerned about MMJ being used for PTSD due to its

Second Arkansas MMJ Initiative Poised to Make Ballot

A second campaign in Arkansas to legalize medical marijuana submitted a final round of signatures to the secretary of state’s office on Friday, and it’s likely more than enough to secure the initiative a spot on the ballot, the Arkansas Times reported.

The campaign, Arkansans United for Medical Marijuana, gathered roughly 23,000 additional signatures to bolster the 72,309 the secretary of state already verified that were submitted in July. The campaign needs a minimum of 84,859 to make the November ballot, and attorney David Couch, who is spearheading the effort, is confident they’ll make that threshold.

New Mexico MMJ Producer, Caregiver Sue State

A licensed medical marijuana producer and a caregiver in New Mexico have sued the state over the mandated 450 plant limit, arguing it’s not enough to meet medical demand.

The lawsuit, filed in Santa Fe County Court by dispensary chain Ultra Health and caregiver Nichole Sena, argues the cap is causing direct harm to Sena’s daughter by not allowing the pair to grow enough plants to produce the CBD medicine the child needs to control epileptic seizures.

The suit was filed against the New Mexico Department of Health, and aims to eliminate the plant limit or increase it
