Colorado Poised To Add PTSD To Medical Cannabis Conditions List

A panel of state lawmakers voted 5-0 to recommend adding post-traumatic stress disorder to the list of qualifying conditions under Colorado’s medical marijuana law.

It’s a major shift for a state that up to now hasn’t endorsed the use of medical cannabis for PTSD, the Associated Press reported.

The vote isn’t legally binding, but is rather a recommendation to the full Legislature, which begins its new session in January. Approval could significantly broaden Colorado’s patient pool, given that many military veterans suffer from PTSD.

Of the 25 states that have legalized medical marijuana, 18 states, plus Washington DC, have

IL Judge Orders Post-Op Pain Added to MMJ Condition List

A county judge in the Chicago area has ordered that the Illinois Department of Health add post-operative chronic pain to the list of qualifying conditions for residents who want to obtain medical marijuana, a move that could bring in more patients to the state’s MMJ program.

Cook County Judge Neil Cohen ordered the agency’s director – Dr. Nirav Shah, who has repeatedly ignored recommendations to expand the MMJ qualifying condition list – to add post-operative chronic pain within 30 days. Cohen also scheduled a follow-up hearing on Nov. 3 “to ensure the director’s compliance with this order,”

Growing High-Quality Cannabis in a Greenhouse: Q&A with Matt Cohen

By Omar Sacirbey

More marijuana growers are convinced you can grow a high-quality crop inside a greenhouse – one as good as that grown in an illuminated indoor grow.

Producing a good greenhouse crop requires a hefty investment in a high-tech facility. The capital outlay can be much more than growing outside or in a warehouse.

But the return on investment “is profound,” and a grower can recoup their costs in a year or less with a sophisticated system, said Matt Cohen, founder of TriQ Systems, an Oregon-based industrial greenhouse engineering firm serving cannabis growers.

Cohen worked for years

OH Attorneys Get Thumbs Up to Take Medical Cannabis Clients

Ohio’s Supreme Court affirmed that lawyers in the state will be allowed to serve medical cannabis business clients, much to the relief of hopeful cannabis entrepreneurs.

The justices amended the Ohio Rules of Professional Conduct to give attorneys clear permission to advise MMJ businesses and clients, Cleveland.com reported. The move reverses a non-binding advisory opinion issued last month, in which the court originally took the position that Ohio lawyers who worked with MMJ businesses would be violating state rules.

The new amendment reads: “A lawyer may counsel or assist a client regarding conduct expressly permitted under

Colorado Springs Shuttering Nine Cannabis Clubs

The city of Colorado Springs has ordered nine cannabis consumption clubs to shut their doors.

It is the first crackdown on cannabis clubs since the Colorado municipality’s city council enacted a ban on the clubs on March 22, according to the Colorado Springs Gazette.

Some clubs are appealing the cease-and-desist orders, while others are challenging the constitutionality of the ban in court.

The clubs first appeared after Colorado voters approved Amendment 64 legalizing recreational marijuana in the state. The law, however, banned public consumption.

Colorado Springs outlawed recreational marijuana sales in the city, but the clubs got around the

Puerto Rico Inventory Tracking System Deal Embroiled in Dispute

By John Schroyer

Three U.S. cannabis inventory software firms are involved in a legal tussle centered over whether Puerto Rico may have violated its own laws when awarding a government contract.

BioTrackTHC, which beat at least five other competitors to win the Puerto Rico contract, is the target of the dispute.

Rivals MJ Freeway and Agrisoft are challenging the Florida-based seed-to-sale tracking company over the contract, which was tentatively awarded in August.

The two rivals have asked the Puerto Rico Department of Health to reconsider its decision, contending that BioTrackTHC is ineligible under the U.S. territory’s law

L.A. Dispensaries Submit Signatures for Ballot Question

A coalition of Los Angeles medical cannabis dispensaries has turned in over 100,000 signatures to support their bid to get an initiative on the city ballot that would give licensing priority to 135 storefronts.

The UCBA Trade Association, which is comprised of roughly 40 dispensaries that have been operating since before September 2007, needed only 61,500 signatures to make the March ballot, the Los Angeles Business Journal reported.

The initiative is intended to get out in front of an expected ballot measure by the city council to bring the city MMJ licensing system into line with state MMJ
