New CO Edibles Rules: Major Cost for Producers, ‘Blip on the Radar’ for Others

By John Schroyer

New labeling rules that take effect Oct. 1 for marijuana edibles produced in Colorado have been a huge expense for many infused products manufacturers – and may cause headaches for retailers, too.

Edibles companies have spent upwards of six figures to retool manufacturing equipment, retrain employees and pay for new packaging.

Retailers, meanwhile, could be left with unsold inventory that doesn’t meet the new standards, which apply to both recreational and medical products.

Any unsold inventory could prove a boon for consumers, with retailers forced to unload edibles at steep discounts at the end of November. That could have

New MA Poll Shows Rec Marijuana Winning

A new poll in Massachusetts shows 53% of state voters support a ballot measure to legalize recreational marijuana, with 40% opposed and 7% undecided.

The poll is the second in less than three weeks to show Massachusetts voters supporting the recreational marijuana legalization ballot measure, which they will decide on Nov. 8. That’s a dramatic shift from previous polls just a few months ago that showed voters split over the measure or rejecting it.

The measure received majority support from every demographic group except voters who were older than 55 and described themselves

New Hampshire Dealing With MMJ Patient Backlog

New Hampshire’s newly-launched medical marijuana industry could probably use some more patient customers. And they may be coming, but not right away as the state tries to handle a backlog of MMJ patient applications that haven’t yet been fully processed.

The New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services has issued MMJ cards to 1,339 patients since December, the Concord Monitor reported. But even more have been waiting longer than the legal 20 days to receive their cards since handing in their applications.

At least 100 patients have not yet received their cards, the paper reported, and

Florida CBD Industry Off to a Slow Start, Eyes November

By Omar Sacirbey

Florida’s fledgling CBD market has just launched but is proceeding at a snail’s pace, with the handful of operators hoping voters will approve a full-fledged medical marijuana program this fall.

For now, the current crop of CBD operators are hedging their bets on expanding their businesses ahead of the Nov. 8 election.

“People are gearing up to pull the trigger on expansion plans after the November vote,” Jeff Sharkey, executive director of the Medical Marijuana Business Association of Florida, said. But, he added: “Nobody wants to spend money on infrastructure until we know for sure what happens.”

Slow Launch Expected for Oregon’s Full Recreational Cannabis Market

By John Schroyer

Oregon retailers anticipating the day when they can sell a full ounce of cannabis to adult-use customers, versus just a quarter-ounce, may be disappointed it probably won’t be on Oct. 1.

In fact, it may take months for scores of businesses that have applied for recreational marijuana permits to become fully licensed. Full licensing is expected to trigger an increase in adult-use sales across the industry, because MJ businesses will be able to sell larger amounts of rec products to customers.

Regulators are one of the reasons behind the slow transition to a market in which medical

Eligible applicants include licensed medical marijuana producers and dispensaries, as well as hospitals, health-care facilities, and universities, according to HartfordBusiness.com.
