Up to 12 Oregon Rec Shops May Be Fully Operational

Oregon’s marijuana industry has begun a new chapter.

At least 26 recreational cannabis retailers in the state have now been fully licensed, the Associated Press reported. And up to a dozen of those were in a position to begin adult-use sales this past Saturday, the official start of Oregon’s full recreational marijuana market.

Although medical marijuana dispensaries in Oregon have been allowed to sell limited amounts of cannabis to recreational users since October 2015, adult-use customers have been allowed to purchase only up to a quarter ounce of flower at a time and only were allowed to begin

Ballot measures to legalize recreational marijuana in Arizona and medical marijuana in Florida, which voters will consider Nov. 8, are spurring opponents and proponents to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Arizonans for Responsible Drug Policy, which opposes recreational legalization, has collected slightly more than $2 million but has spent less than one third of that and still has $1.4 million in its

Medical Cannabis Will be on Future Oklahoma Ballot

An Oklahoma campaign to legalize medical marijuana looks to have succeeded in getting an initiative placed on a future statewide ballot.

Oklahomans for Health, which turned in more than enough signatures to make this year’s ballot, said it is certain to go before voters at some point in the future, now that a 10-day window to challenge its signatures has expired. The group was too late for the Nov. 8 ballot, according to the Oklahoman, which said the measure could be on the 2018 ballot.

Meanwhile, the ACLU is challenging the Oklahoma attorney general’s rewrite of the ballot title,

Fire Safety Group Developing Marijuana Business Guidelines

A major fire safety group is updating its fire codes to include a section devoted to marijuana cultivation and processing sites, a sign that cannabis businesses will need to be increasingly focused on safety guidelines.

The National Fire Protection Association, a member-based nonprofit that develops codes and standards for fire safety, has been working on the chapter for more than a year, Kristin Bigda, the group’s principal fire protection engineer, told the Denver Post.

Bigda headed a task force made up of NFPA and marijuana industry officials to draft the chapter’s code language.

The newspaper also noted that marijuana

Oregon MJ Regulators Ease Industry Rules Ahead of Deadline

Oregon marijuana regulators on Friday announced temporary rules that will make it easier for MJ companies to comply with new rules governing testing, packaging and labeling of recreational and medical cannabis products.

Stricter rules were set to kick in on Saturday, Oct. 1. But delays in the state’s processing of regulatory applications had threatened to throw the market into turmoil, cannabis industry insiders had warned. The delays raised the prospect that retailers would be forced to remove unapproved products from their shelves, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Under the stricter rules, MJ businesses had to get their new

CA Gov. Signs One Medical Marijuana Bill, Vetoes Another

California Gov. Jerry Brown on Thursday signed a significant piece of statewide medical marijuana legislation and vetoed another focused on Los Angeles.

Brown signed Assembly Bill 2679, which establishes statewide standards for MMJ product manufacturers, further implements regulations for the industry as a whole, and puts an end to “misguided raids” by law enforcement on infused-product makers, according to a press release from Assemblyman Rob Bonta’s office.

Brown vetoed Assembly Bill 2385, which would have created an exemption to the upcoming statewide MMJ industry regulations for a handful of cannabis businesses in Los Angeles.

Maryland Medical Marijuana License Lawsuit May Grow

A lawsuit targeting Maryland’s highly competitive medical marijuana business license outcome is poised to get a second plaintiff.

The lawsuit, originally filed Sept. 19 in Baltimore Circuit Court by GTI Maryland, alleges that the state commission that awarded the permits in early August broke its own rules during the selection process, and gave licenses to applicants that received lower scores in the evaluation of 145 different companies.

Now, Maryland Cultivation and Processing is making the same argument, and points to the fact that it was “initially among the top 15 applicants,” the Baltimore Sun reported.

FL Poll Shows Support Rising for Medical Cannabis Measure

A new poll in Florida shows growing support for a medical marijuana ballot measure that the state’s voters will consider on Nov. 8.

According to a September survey by the Saint Leo University Polling Institute in Saint Leo, Florida, 68.8% of likely voters supported Amendment 2, as the medical cannabis measure is known, up from 65.1% in June.

“It appears as though medical marijuana supporters will get the victory they were denied by voters in 2014,” Frank Orlando, director of the polling institute and a political science instructor at the university, said in a news release. “The higher
