CBD-infused beer gets go-ahead for national distribution

Shipping across state lines? No problem, as long as you leave THC out of the equation.

A Colorado-based beer maker that produces CBD-infused brews has received the green light from the federal government to distribute its product line nationwide, according to U.S. News and World Report.

Dad and Dude’s Breweria, which is based in an eastern Denver suburb, told the news outlet that it has received permission from the Treasury Department’s Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau, which oversees interstate beer sales. The agency still must approve a product label for the company, but once that happens

Another Canadian MMJ cultivator plans to go public

Canadian medical cannabis producer Emblem is set to go public next month on the TSX Venture Exchange, the electronic exchange owned by the parent of the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The Ontario company is the latest federally licensed medical marijuana cultivator to list its shares on an exchange, thanks to Canada’s legalized MMJ industry.

CA dispensary wants tax payment labeled a ‘contribution’

The owner of a California medical marijuana grow and dispensary is proposing to pay $1.3 million in back taxes to the city of San Jose, but with a caveat – the money must be classified as a “contribution or collection of membership fees,” not as taxes.

David Armstrong, the owner of MediMarts in San Jose, hasn’t paid the city’s 10% business tax in four years, claiming that doing so would put him in violation of state and federal laws. Paying taxes would be tantamount to admitting that they sell marijuana, Armstrong and his lawyers told NBC Bay Area.

WA proposes new cannabis regulator, organic MJ program

The Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) has proposed hiring a new cannabis regulator whose job could include administering a program to certify organically grown marijuana.

“There seems to be consumer interest in that,” WSDA spokesman Hector Castro said of organic certification, according to the Capital Press. “We have done this for other commodities, obviously.”

Since Washington voters legalized recreational marijuana in 2012, the state Liquor and Cannabis Board has been responsible for regulating the industry.

The board contracted with the WSDA to test cannabis for pesticides and to check the labeling of edibles.

Uncertainty, rumors swirling in Arizona after marijauna licensing decisions

By John Schroyer

When Arizona completed a long-awaited second round of medical cannabis business licensing last week, the state’s MMJ industry was left with a host of unanswered questions.

Did the bulk of licenses go to entrepreneurs already running MMJ businesses in the state or newcomers to the industry? When will the latest crop of dispensaries actually open and compete with existing storefronts? Will lawsuits push back the timeline?

Most of the questions stem from the secretive nature of Arizona’s licensing process, given that the state does not reveal the actual names of winning applicants. As a result, rumors are swirling
