Craft marijuana cultivator buys historic CA wine property

A craft cannabis cultivator has purchased the northern California birthplace of Fetzer Wines, a major American winemaker, and plans to transform the property into a vertically integrated cannabis business.

San Francisco-based Flow Kana bought the 80-acre property and ranch house in Mendocino County, where it plans to start a full-service marijuana company that would include cultivation, processing, manufacturing, and retail sales, the North Bay Business Journal reported.

The purchase price for the Redwood Valley property wasn’t disclosed. But a real estate agent representing the property owners said that Flow Kana’s offer price was “more than close” to the

Washington state’s MJ edibles labeling rules target child safety

All edible marijuana products sold in Washington state must now carry a warning on the label notifying consumers they are “not for kids.”

The state requirement, which took effect Tuesday for marijuana-infused foods and soft drinks, consists of a red hand, the written warning and the Washington Poison Center’s telephone number, The News Tribune of Tacoma reported.

Marijuana processors are required to incorporate the label on new packaging or to affix a sticker to existing packaging to differentiate cannabis edibles from regular candy bars, sweets and drinks. It also serves as a reminder to keep MJ products away from children,

New York medical marijuana firm wins nursing home contract

Etain Health of New York landed a contract with a Bronx nursing home to provide its residents with medical cannabis products, a move that could help improve the MMJ company’s patient numbers.

It’s believed to be the first such deal in the state, the New York Daily News reported. Industry analysts believe such arrangements will grow over time across the nation. In fact, a small number of American and Canadian companies have approached senior facilities, though it’s unclear if any have procured contracts like Etain’s.

According to the deal, Etain will help medical staff at the unidentified

WA rec cannabis cultivator closed, plants destroyed over tax issue

Regulators closed one of Washington state’s early marijuana businesses for allegedly failing to pay taxes.

And, for the first time, state agents confiscated and eradicated all the plants belonging to the cultivator, Nine Point Growth Industries.

Agents with the state Liquor and Cannabis Board late last week shuttered the company, which has grown and produced recreational marijuana in West Bremerton since September 2014. It was the state’s second licensed cannabis business. An agency spokesman cited recurring tax issues as the reason for the closure, the Kitsap Sun reported.

The seizure and destruction of crops for violation of state regulations was a

MassRoots CEO Isaac Dietrich revealed Monday during a shareholder conference call that the Denver-based social media company is exploring a public listing on a Canadian stock exchange.

Oregon mulls putting medical, rec cannabis under one regulator

Oregon lawmakers are considering putting the state’s medical and adult-use marijuana programs under the oversight of one regulatory agency.

The move would put Oregon in the same company as its neighbor to the north, Washington state.

According to the Blue Mountain Eagle, the co-chairwomen of the legislature’s Joint Committee on Marijuana Regulation have offered bills that would transfer regulation of MMJ to the Oregon Liquor Control Commission – which currently oversees recreational sales – from the Oregon Health Authority (OHA).

Another proposal would establish a separate agency tasked with cannabis regulation.

Maine’s jump in MMJ caregivers shows interest in rec industry

The number of registered caregivers licensed to grow medical marijuana for patients in Maine increased by 42% in 2016, a sign to some that people are hoping to gain experience in the MMJ industry to gain “a leg up” once permits become available for the state’s new adult-use program.

The jump also is a sign that more patients are turning to cannabis to treat maladies such as chronic pain, the Portland Press Herald reported.

And it indicates that Maine’s legal dispensaries face growing competition from the state’s caregivers. Once the only cannabis suppliers to Maine patients, caregivers have competed since 2011
