Citing federal concerns, New Mexico city denies marijuana ads

A medical marijuana dispensary in Albuquerque, New Mexico, had visions of advertising on the sides of buses, but local transit authorities rejected the ads, citing concerns about federal law and grant funding.

According to the Santa Fe New Mexican, the Ultra Health dispensary was seeking to place ads on the vehicles featuring photos of people of various ages and ethnic groups as well as the slogan “Your Health. Our Commitment.”

The city’s legal department, however, said any marijuana-related ads displayed by the Transit Department are prohibited by federal law, regardless of New Mexico’s MMJ laws.

The bills, by Rep. Yousef Rabhi and Sen. David Knezek, were motivated by a desire to protect MMJ patients and their suppliers, Mlive.com reported.

San Francisco rec marijuana sales won’t start in January

San Francisco, the birthplace of the modern marijuana industry, is a little behind schedule.

City officials are now saying recreational marijuana sales won’t start in January, according to SF Gate, which is the earliest any California municipality would be able to launch an adult-use market.

The reason is that San Francisco’s Board of Supervisors is still hammering out details on industry regulations, including a social equity program that will ensure the participation of minorities, former drug offenders and low-income entrepreneurs in the cannabis sector.

The city will allow its existing 48 medical cannabis dispensaries to obtain 120-day

Poll: Canadians want private sector involved in cannabis retail

The Oraclepoll Research survey also found that 63% of respondents would prefer to purchase cannabis products in a retail environment.

The poll, involving 5,000 people, comes two weeks after Ontario released its marijuana regulatory framework, which calls for the private sector to be completely shut out of the retail rec business.
