Hawaii’s first medical cannabis dispensary open for business
After 17 years of waiting, Hawaii dispensaries began selling medical marijuana Tuesday.
Maui Grown Therapies of Kahului conducted the Aloha State’s first MMJ sale at 11 a.m. HST after getting the go-ahead from the Hawaii Department of Health.
Hawaii was among the first states to legalize medical marijuana in 2000, but dispensaries weren’t legalized until 2015.
In April 2016, Maui Grown was awarded Hawaii’s first MMJ dispensary license and, in February 2017, received a notice to proceed with cultivation from the state. The dispensary passed its final retail inspection on Monday, setting the state for Tuesday’s opening.
